Calysta Energy™ Names Industry Veteran William Rothwell As Sr. Vice President, Business Development

Menlo Park, CA—November 12, 2012—Calysta Energy™ (www.calystaenergy.com) today announced William (Bill) Rothwell, Ph.D., has been named to the new position of Senior Vice President, Business Development. Dr. Rothwell has a distinguished career over more than 30 years in the oil and biobased chemicals industries. He will report to Alan Shaw, Ph.D., Chairman, President and CEO. Calysta is using natural gas as a new biological feedstock for cost-competitive, scalable biofuels and chemicals production.

Bill’s three decades of petro and biobased chemicals experience will be a strategic advantage for Calysta as we focus on new high value transportation fuels and chemicals to meet this market need.”

Dr. Rothwell joins Calysta from Codexis, where he was Vice President and General Manager, Biobased Chemicals, with responsibility for leveraging the Codexis’ directed evolution platform in the field of renewable biobased chemicals. He joined Codexis in 2010 after 29 years at Royal Dutch Shell plc, focusing on leadership and strategic development of Shell’s global chemical business. He represented Shell as a member of the Codexis Board of Directors from 2007-09. He retired from Shell in 2009.

At Shell, Dr. Rothwell served from 2007-2009 as Vice President of Innovation and Chemicals Technology, Shell Global Solutions. He led a 500-person team in five global technology centers in the US, Europe and Asia, and sat on both the Shell Global Solutions and Shell Chemical Leadership Teams. From 2002-2007, he was Vice President/General Manager of Shell Chemicals Ethylene Oxide/Glycols global business. Previously, he held strategic planning and business positions at Shell in London and Houston, including global General Manager of Strategy, Planning and Ventures for Shell Chemicals. He joined Shell as a chemist in 1980. Dr. Rothwell holds bachelor’s degrees in mathematics and chemistry from Michigan State University and a Ph.D. in physical chemistry from MIT.
